SUMMARY:Road to the Capitol: Leadership Institute for Self-Advocates
DESCRIPTION:Road to the Capitol: Leadership Institute for Self-Advocates is a five-day\, in-person leadership program for Spanish-speaking self-advocates ages 18–36 with developmental disabilities. \nParticipants will build confidence\, strengthen advocacy skills\, and practice sharing their personal stories. They will learn how laws and policies affect the disability community and how to speak up in important spaces. \nSessions will be held Monday\, Tuesday\, Wednesday\, and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at ALAS. On Thursday\, participants will travel to Madison to attend Disability Advocacy Day at the State Capitol. The schedule will be different that day due to travel and event activities. \nThis is an application-based program. Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance. The ALAS team will review applications and contact selected participants. A short interview may be required. \nParents or caregivers may join the group for the Madison trip if they choose to accompany their self-advocate. \nThis program will be offered entirely in Spanish.

DESCRIPTION:Gather with your ALAS family for a special Thanksgiving Brunch filled with connection\, gratitude\, and delicious food. This event is lovingly organized by a family-led planning committee to bring parents together in celebration and support. \nEach family is invited to bring a dish to share\, creating a beautiful and diverse Thanksgiving feast. A raffle will also be held to support future events—please bring cash if you’d like to participate. Proceeds will help cover decorations\, supplies\, and the touches that make our gatherings extra special. \nAdvance registration is required to help us prepare and ensure a wonderful experience for everyone. Registration will close on November 19. \nBring your loved ones\, a favorite dish\, and your holiday spirit. We look forward to celebrating this season of gratitude\, friendship\, and community together!
